Read "Twitter Tips, Tricks and Tweets" First

Twitter Tips, Tricks, and Tweets
Twitter is a how-to manual for anyone interested in learning the practical in’s and out’s of Twitter.
I wish I had read this book when I first started with Twitter. It would have saved me a lot of time and effort. If I had read this book first I doubt I would have read any other books on Twitter. Needless to say I liked this book and will definitely add it to my “refer to clients” list.
Paul McFedries does an excellent job of introducing Twitter in a completely logical, practical how-to and step-wise manner. The book is very well organized and illustrated to make learning the how’s, why’s and cultural norms of Twitter simple.
Twitter starts you out at the absolute beginning and leads you through all the mechanic s of setup, customization and what to do next with Twitter.

The book follows the sequence of:

  1. How do I get started with Twitter?
  2. What Can I Do to Customize My Twitter Profile?
  3. How Do I Send Twitter Updates?
  4. How Do I Follow Other Twitter Users?
  5. Can I Use Twitter On My Mobile Phone?
  6. How Do I Find Stuff in Twitter?
  7. Where Can I Display My Twitter Feed?
  8. How Can I Take Twitter To The Next Level?
  9. What Tools Can I Use To Extend Twitter?
I think for most people interested in Twitter this book will provide the step-by-step instructions they need and will be able to follow for weeks.

The only criticism I have of this book is that it does not go into much detail about the promotion of your Twitter profile. It does tell you how to link Twitter to all your social media profiles, news readers and website, which is a good start. However there is a lot more to Twitter promotion than this book outlines. Promotion is the only area of Twitter use where you will have to look elsewhere for help.

Otherwise, I enthusiastically recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Twitter. My recommendation is to read it cover to cover first. It will take you a couple of hours at most. Then go back and work your way through the book like a training manual. This will take you sometime, but it will be worth your effort as you will emerge a competent Twitterer.
